Professor Nancy Ngunan Agbe
Professor Nancy Ngunan Agbe was born on 30th June, 1954 at Mkar. After her elementary education, she proceeded to Bristow Secondary School, Gboko where she graduated in 1973. She attended the famous Gindiri Girls High School, Gindiri in the present Plateau State for her Higher School Certificate from 1973 - 1975, and the prestigious University of Ile Ife, from 1975 – 1978 where she bagged a Bachelors Degree in English.
Her keen interest in teaching which stemmed from her unquenchable desire to mould youths into diciplined and responsible citizens became the driving force in her determination to pursue a Postgraduate Diploma in Education at University of Jos in 1979, followed by a Master’s Degree in Psychology, Guidance and Counselling in the same University in 1983. Her insatiable quest for knowledge took her to the renowned University of Calabar for a Doctorate Degree programme in Counseling Psychology which she successfully completed in 1990. Professor Agbe reached the pinnacle of her academic and professional career in 2003 when she took the esteemed professional chair in Counseling Psychology.
A teacher par excellence and accomplished educationalist, Professor Agbe has thoroughly traversed the educational landscape of Nigeria step by step, rising through the ranks as an ordinary classroom teacher to Acting Vice-Principal, substantive Vice-Principal, both Academic and Administrative, and Principal in many secondary schools. She joined the services of Benue State University, Makurdi in 1992 as a lecturer in the Faculty of Education.
As a University Lecturer, she demonstrated her starling academic and administrative qualities both by rapidly rising to the top of her profession barely eleven years of joining a University, and by the nature of appointments that she held, having become a Head of Department, Assistant Dean of an Academic Faculty, substantive Dean for two terms, chairman of various University Committees and a Students’ Adviser. She has both been an external examiner and assessor to many tertiary institutions and attended many conferences and workshops, both at home and abroad. She is a member of the famous Counseling Association of Nigeria (CASSON), a member of the Nigerian Psychological Association (NPA) and member of the Professional Women’s Advisory Board of the American Biographical Institute, 2005. She has variously served on Government Boards and Committees including the Benue State Teaching Service Board, Benue State Scholarship Board, Benue State Advance Plan Committee and the Benue State Reform Team (SRT). She has won may awards both in academic circles and outside it.
A vibrant Christian, professor Nancy Agbe is married with six children.
